5 Ways to Effectively Work from Home

Office & Culture

Work from home, remotely, emails,

Being efficient working from home can be a challenge. There are a lot of distractions, less communication and if you are not self-disciplined your accountability can take a hit. There are a lot of ways to keep yourself working productively from home and here are our top tips.

Bed, work from home, dedicated work space

Avoid Working from the Bed or Couch.

Creating a dedicated work area is one of the most important things for a productive day of work. A clear line needs to be drawn between a relaxing space and working space. These boundaries are essential for your wellbeing and posture when working from home. Your relaxing space should be used after your long day at work. Coming into that space to work is not effective as you will automatically struggle to get motivated and be influenced by your surroundings. By having a dedicated work space, either your kitchen area or spare room it will help you to mentally transition into work mode and get through your to do list easier.

Get dressed, professional, work remotely

Get Dressed

Opting to stay in pyjamas for the day might sound like a great idea but if you continue to do this for a couple days it can be detrimental to your mood. A full work attire is not necessary however a change of fresh clothes will get you in a more productive mood.

Nature, outdoors, take a break

Make Some Time for Fresh Air, Just Like You Would in the Office

For your lunch break take the opportunity to get outside for some fresh air. Nothing breaks your work day more than getting some movement in and exposure to daylight. You will come back to your desk refreshed and ready to work through that afternoon slump. A nutritious meal is also in order, it is essential to fuel your body so your mind can be more alert and work seamlessly for the rest of the day. If you are self – isolating, opting for the balcony or back garden does the trick too.

block distraction, social media

Block Distractions

Is there any rabbit hole more tempting than social media? Taking a quick scroll on your social media channels can turn into a vast amount of time that could have been used more productively. If you are constantly distracted or tend to automatically pick up your phone to check in, there are a lot of social media blocking apps and the Google Chrome extension lets you set specific time restrictions on certain websites with a 10-minute default option. Once your time has been used up, the sites you have selected to block can’t be accessed for the remainder of the day.

work remotely, microphone

Be Ready to Facilitate Remote Meetings

Even when your whole team is working from home, the meetings will possibly go ahead via Teams, Google conference etc. If you are using the phone or laptop setup, make sure to do a run through the equipment before you begin your work day. It is essential to look presentable as you still want to make a professional impression and show a serious approach to your team and responsibilities.
