Tell us about yourself

My name is Shanda Tuffnell Moreno. I am half Spanish and half Canadian and my husband and I have lived in Belfast since June 2016. I started working as an Ambassador for Belfast One in the city centre in November 2016. I love meeting new people and learning new things about Belfast each day which makes my job ideal for me.

Tell us about Belfast One

Belfast One is the Business Improvement District for Belfast City Centre and has been up and running since April 2016. The company focuses on three key areas: to Promote, Enhance and Support the area and the businesses within it and our team of Ambassadors are part of the Enhance and Support areas.

What’s your role in Belfast One?

There are four Ambassadors for the city centre and we have various roles. We offer information to tourists and locals about things going on in the city, transportation, local recommendations, directions, etc. We also make reports of anything that may be damaged or if there is graffiti or rubbish, basically things that would make the city centre unappealing to look at. We also act as a liaison between the Belfast One team and the individual businesses and deliver information to them about the various projects Belfast One are running for businesses e.g. cost saving initiatives, marketing campaigns, etc.

Tell us something about Belfast One we might not know

Belfast One is one of six Business Improvement Districts that are currently in place across Northern Ireland. The others are in the Cathedral Quarter in Belfast, Enniskillen, Ballymena, Newry and Strabane.

What’s next for Belfast One?

The Belfast One team are busy putting together their year two plan, with exciting new initiatives planned across the Promote, Enhance and Support projects. In terms of the Ambassadors we will be continuing to establish ourselves as a key part of the city centre with both the public and Belfast One businesses.

What’s your favourite thing about working in Belfast?

The best thing about working in Belfast are how nice the people are, always willing to stop and chat and brighten your day. Belfast is very diverse from culture to culinary experience. I think it is a very well rounded city.

Finally, Friday nights in or Friday nights out?

Personally I like both. Going out is wonderful after a busy working week. You could head to see some live music at Granny Annie’s or go for a nice meal and a film but it is always nice to have a nice relaxing night in with family and friends too.

Belfast One is the business improvement district (BID) for Belfast City Centre. In October 2015 businesses in Belfast City Centre voted in favour of establishing the BID which is aiming to improve all the businesses in our city centre.
