Health & Wellbeing
We have become quite dependant on our phones and smart devices during the workweek, weather it’s because our work demands it or force of habit. It is always expected that we receive lots of messages and good wishes from friends and family over the Holiday Season, but why not try take a step back from technology and be more present in the world. Christmas-time should be spent with our loved ones and not spent looking at work-related emails or updates when you are supposed to be recharging and enjoying a well earned break.
The festive season allows us to spend some extra quality time with family and friends who we might not necessarily see during the year. Focus on the people around you who have taken the time to visit you or have chosen to spend time with you and be present in each moment. Time away from work means that you have no deadlines to meet and your weekly demands are reduced significantly. Try to leave your phone in a different room and get in the habit of not checking it constantly. Allow yourself to wind back and really enjoy the festivities. Trust us you will enjoy the break much more and create lasting memories.
Ensure that you have a couple of fun things planned with friends and family over the holidays. Don’t allow yourself to become bored. Enjoying your time off starts with doing things you wouldn’t normally have the time to do. Why not go for brunch with friends mid-week or take a personal day to yourself to have a spa treatment or gather some ingredients and make that cake you've been meaning to bake. This will reenergise you and help you make the most of your time off.
Christmas time usually means bustling crowds and heavy traffic. Even during our work-week we rush from one meeting to another. We have become so accustomed to rushing in order to get work, this can be a tough habit to break. Make sure you have enough time to get things done, allow yourself time to breathe and take in the atmosphere. Festive shopping doesn’t always have to be a crazed blur, go at your own pace and take it all in.
Here at Glandore we promote a healthy workplace and encourage that our employees take the proper time off over the Christmas period.
We believe that employees who don't allow themselves to switch off completely from work will feel overworked and undervalued which can often lead to a high turnover of staff. Employers have a responsibility to ensure that their employees are cared for and maintain an healthy work-life balance. However we do understand that some jobs do require you to be contactable during the holidays but we urge you make sure your team refrains from checking emails or working over the festive break.
Christmas holidays are so important and allow us just enough time to relax, switch off and return to work feeling fresh and motivated to begin a new year of work.
