We spend about a third of our waking hours at work, and don’t necessarily leave the job behind when we leave, which is why it's hugely important to recognise the importance of workplace wellbeing. During our busy workdays, it's important to take time to talk to one another, to share non-work related issues and to connect with teammates, colleagues and employees on a personal level, not just a professional one.
Support, strategy, engagement and motivation are the keys to implementing a successful wellbeing program in the workplace. Wellbeing takes different forms for different people, so it’s important to have flexibility. Offering meditation, yoga and fitness initiatives is a great way for workers to experience wellbeing, not just for the mind, but for body and soul too. Guest speakers discussing the importance of looking after ones mental health, tackling workday anxiety and highlighting the need for work-life balance can also be a big help.
Working in an environment where one feels safe, respected and valued; the demands of the job are reasonable; and the company supports growth and interpersonal development are most important for wellbeing in the workplace.
