What's on in Belfast this November

Belfast

So you thought you could look forward to cosy nights in, a glass of red by the fire, curling up and finding some good Netflix recommendations. You thought the summers on the rooftop bars of Belfast were long gone but Belfast, however, has not quite given up. There’s still plenty to do in the run up to Christmas. Our Glandore Belfast community team have been pounding the pavement, discovering some of the best things this city has to offer our members over the coming month. Check out a few of our top picks.

Twilight Market
8 - 9 November
To mark the end of the 2016 year of Food and Drink, the award winning Twilight Market is back at St Georges Market, Belfast. 130 traders will be showcasing their arts and crafts and food and drink. After thousands of people turned up from all over Northern Ireland earlier in the year, organisers have scheduled put on a second night this year. With local pop-up restaurants, live music and DJ’s, this will be an event not to be missed.

C.S. Lewis Festival
18 - 22 November
Famous for the popular children’s books, ‘Chronicals of Narnia’, C.S. Lewis was born in Belfast in 1898. To celebrate his life and legacy, Eastside Arts and Connswater Community Greenway have put together the 3rd annual C.S. Lewis festival. The festival will showcase his work as well his strong connections to his childhood home of East Belfast. You can expect talks, workshops, performances, and a range of tours to visit the places that inspired Lewis, when you go through the wardrobe!

Christmas Light Switch On
19 November
It’s that time of the year again! The Christmas lights are being switched on at City Hall on Saturday, 19th November. This free, family event marks the start of the festive season with very special guest appearances, of which are yet to be confirmed, but the Gruffalo switched on the lights last year! Of course, the switching on of the lights in Belfast can only mean one thing, the opening of the Belfast Christmas Market…

Belfast Christmas Market
19 November – 22 December
The continental market at City Hall can easily compete with Christmas markets found across Europe. There are loads of choices for a bite to eat; Spanish paella, giant German Bratwurst and rare meat burgers (Kangaroo burger anyone?) are just a few of the mouthwatering options on offer. After a good feed, spend the evening in one of two beer tents, pop into the traditional Irish bar or try out a few German ales at the Bavarian tent. This year will be extra special as Northern Ireland celebrates the Year of Food and Drink. A visit to Santa’s grotto is a must for the kids (don’t forget to post a letter at the grotto and receive a response from Santa himself!), whilst mums and dads warm up with a glass of warm mulled wine.
