Five Minute Focus on: Angela Robb, Glandore

Glandore Members & Partners

Tell us about yourself

I studied Marketing at University and as part of that I spent time working with the National Trust – this was a great opportunity for me to learn and explore more of our beautiful outdoors, but it provided me with clarity around marketing as a career choice.

I then went through M&S’s management programme leading teams in all departments and at various sites. This gave me my first insight into people management and the operational side of business, and I realised this was something I wanted to pursue further. I’ve been at Glandore over a year now and it has been great transitioning from retail to business.

Tell us about your role at Glandore

As Assistant Operations Manager I manage new members moving into Glandore and members moving on, whether it be furniture, IT through to induction, I am on hand to make the transition as easy as possible. I also help with ensuring our Belfast buildings are maintained to the high standard we are used to. My role is extremely varied, so no two days are the same!

What do you like most about working at Glandore

I love that Glandore is a family run business and the staff are all an extension of the Kelly Family. Aside from that I love working alongside a range of companies of various sizes and sectors. You get to meet some very interesting people in this role.

What do you like about living and working in Belfast?

I am a real home bird and I like the proximity to everything and how much Belfast has changed in recent years. It has become far more diverse and the difference I’ve seen from growing up in Belfast to the place it is now is phenomenal. Despite all the change it has somehow managed to keep the charm, craic and sense of humour it’s known for.

I love being based in the city centre as its walking distance from the great shops, eateries and more importantly the Cathedral Quarter!

What do you like to do when you’re not working?

I’m an avid gym goer but that’s balanced with my love for good food.

I’ve just bought a house so most of my spare time is spent working on it. I’ve become a pro at painting and all things decorating. My Operations eye for detail has now infiltrated into this project.

Friday nights in or Friday nights out?

Both, I love going out and socialising with friends, but I equally enjoy a night in with a glass of wine and a good movie.

It doesn’t take much to make me happy!
