Five minute focus, Paul O'Brien, Glandore, SKG

Tell us about yourself ?

Married to Louise and we have two children, Finn 4 and Evie 2 years old going on 25!!! Heard her the other night telling Finn he was a good boy for brushing his teeth!!!

Family is first and foremost. I enjoy all sports. I’m always ‘’whats next’’ both professionally and in my personal life which I know drives Louise mad at times. But I do think it’s why she stayed with me in the first place. I love innovation and admire ambition. I like to help in any way I can. No seems to not be in my vocabulary.

Tell us about SRG ?

SRG stands for STEM Recruitment Group and we are a specialist recruitment firm that recruit across Life sciences, R&D, multi-discipline technology, clinical trials, manufacturing and engineering. However niche no project is too big or small to find a solution. Our clients range from the large multinationals to SME engineering firms and testing facilities. We provide services ranging from provision of permanent staff, contingent, CTP, RPO, MSP and Statement of Work (PBR) solutions.

What is your role in the company?

Associate Director and responsible for launch of SRG into Irish market in line with SRG/Impellam corporate stakeholders.

Tell us something about SRG that we may not know?

SRG the company in business for 30 years across the UK and the United States. The exciting aspect for me is that with our reach it opens up a new talent pool for Irish based companies as I see being of real benefit in such a tight labour market. We are STEM specific and not a generalist recruitment company. Cork is the HQ for SRG in Ireland.

What’s next for your business in Cork?

2019 was our startup phase but now as we have a growing client base in Cork and across Ireland then I think 2020 will be great. I know it will be as the team I have going into the New Year are amazing. 2020 will be very exciting for us as we become more established, known and trusted across Ireland.

What’s your favourite thing about working in Cork?

The sense of togetherness and the drive people have in Cork. That has always been there I guess but looking at the city evolving is very exciting and there are fantastic plans in place to take the city to the next level.

What do you like about being a Glandore Member?

It’s just a great place. Great environment for our team and excellent facilities to welcome existing clients but also sets a tone for future clients. Also, there’s great interaction with other members or through the events that the Glandore team hold. But high praise must go to the Glandore team. They are amazing people that go above and beyond every single day in making this place so unique.

Friday nights in or Friday night out?

Friday nights in for us. Weekends are action packed with movie night on Saturday, swimming lessons and hurling training. Finn as I said earlier is 4 so when I say training, what I really mean is running around with his mates pulling faces at each other. But good fun all the same. We do sneak in the odd glass of wine when the little ones are catching some Z’s but wouldn’t change staying in for the world.

As a global STEM network, we apply our specialist industry knowledge to a full spectrum of roles and talent solutions. We recruit across the product life cycle from scientific research and technology, clinical trials, manufacturing and engineering disciplines to market access. We have almost thirty years of experience taking projects from discovery to completion and developing bespoke solutions to help unlock new ways of working and thinking.
