Five Minute Focus On: Philipp Maucher, Teamwork
Tell us about Teamwork
Teamwork exists to make teams around the world efficient, organised and happy with our suite of integrated SaaS (software-as-a-service) software. We’re currently providing 3 software products: our flagship, Teamwork Projects – a project management solution for professionals, Teamwork Desk – a customer helpdesk solution and Teamwork Chat – an instant messenger for teams. The idea for Teamwork Projects (called “Teamworkpm.net” back then) came from our two founders Peter Coppinger and Dan Mackey when they needed to organise their web agency better but couldn’t find any suitable software on the market. Towards the end of 2007 they launched Teamworkpm.net without any marketing and a high five. In their first month, the guys made $191 pizza money. The company grew from strength to strength over the years, leading Peter and Dan to hand over their agency business and focus on Teamworkpm solely. The major hockey-stick growth came for our business in late 2013 with the purchase of the “Teamwork.com” domain for roughly £450,000. Today, we’re serving 22,000 paying customers world-wide, just opened our 9nth office in Boston, and are on the way to $100m in revenue – all while still remaining self-funded. We aim to power as many companies globally as possible, have a positive impact on the world, create careers we are proud of and – most importantly – have fun while doing this.
What is your role in Teamwork?
As the Global Operations Manager I lead our internal operating system, process and all offices worldwide. I identify new office locations and source the best spaces that are in line with our Teamwork values and culture. Besides, I’m coordinating the SaaS Network Ireland – a community of indigenous Irish SaaS businesses for faster scaling and more success of Irish SaaS.
Tell us something about Teamwork we may not know
Our learning culture is most precious to us. Every new employee receives a package of 6 books we deem everyone in SaaS should read. On top, we encourage our staff to conduct learning courses, engage in conferences, do further readings and share their learnings in form of monthly show-and-tells or tech talks, our internal blog or Teamwork Chat with the rest of the company.
What’s next for Teamwork?
Main priority for us over the next 1-3 years is to double in revenue, grow our Belfast office to a second Development and Support hub and expand our US operations with a strong Customer Success and Field Sales team on the ground. We have an exciting year ahead with two new products being launched by mid 2019, of which one was built by our new team in Belfast.
What do you like about being a Glandore Member?
We’ve had a very good feeling with the Glandore Team from the get-go. The space provides fits our purposes perfectly fine and the latest extension of the break-out area on the 5th floor are a great spot to mingle with other members in Glandore. We want our team to have similar benefits and comfort whether they are in in our amazing HQs in Cork or anywhere in the world. Glandore in Belfast caters for such.
Friday nights in or Friday nights out?
Friday nights out – need to knock off an eventful week with a pint or two and good company.
