How companies can successfully transition into a coworking space

Office & Culture

Coworking isn’t just for the small start-ups anymore. Larger and more established corporations are beginning to see the benefits of shaking up their work methods and expanding their channels of workflow into the realm of coworking.

However, sometimes this transition can prove to be a little difficult for first-time coworkers, as a multitude of criteria must be met in terms of suitability, flexibility, facilities, and culture. So, how can these industry heavyweights make that transition with ease and create a successful coworking environment for their employees?

Here at Glandore, we know a thing or two about successful collaboration and how to apply coworking methods to the traditional workplace structure. We’ve put together a small list of tips which you can take on board in order to help streamline your new coworking experience and workflow.

Flexibility

One of the more notable aspects of coworking is the more flexible approach to the working week.

Employers should take note of how their employees perform at their best and apply new, more flexible works options for them. There may be some that prefer to work a weekend day and have Mondays off, while others may prefer to work from home due to children or distance.

These are things that can be taken care of very easily and can help build up your ideal coworking environment.

Security

If you’re deciding to move into a brand new coworking space, one of the first things you should be asking yourself is, “is this space secure enough for what we do?”.

If you have a lot of specialist equipment that is worth a lot of money, you need to make sure that you have access to a secure room for it all. Do you need a private office? And can your provider supply you with one? For online security, will you need your own VPN? Can that be set-up with your provider?

Ideally, a workspace will have on-site Operations and Tech teams that can answer any questions you might have before you make the switch. Look around before settling on one space.

Networking events

When you move house, you hold a housewarming for your neighbours don’t you? The same should apply when you move your business.

Coworking is all about creating a community of talented individuals, regardless of which company they work for. Ideas can be shared across the room, theories can be tested on others and friends can be made. Important connections can be made in coworking spaces, so it’s important to make the best impression you can.

Holding regular networking opportunities for your own employees, as well as neighbouring businesses, can be a fun way to let off some steam while building bridges at the same time. Here at Glandore, we host our regular Wine Wednesdays for our members, which seems to go down a real treat!

Problem Solving

Coming from your own office block to a coworking space can be an eye-opening experience for you as an employer.

You’ll be sharing a space with different companies, and this is something which might cause a couple of problems down the line. Are other team members being too loud? Is there limited space at certain periods of the day due to meetings? This is where your leadership skills are put to the test. You must be an effective problem solver in order to avoid future conflict over these issues.

Before you move in, it might be worth spending a trial week within the intended space. It will show you what to expect from your new home and what your neighbours are like. You can spot things that may be useful to your employees and iron out any potential issues before the move.
