How to get your office into the festive spirit

Office & Culture

In case you haven’t noticed, it’s already December! With only a few more sleeps until Christmas Eve, you’ve only a limited amount of time for festivities.

Here at Glandore, we believe that a vibrant, festive environment can help lift the mood of even the Grinchiest of souls. So here are some fantastic ways to get everybody feeling festive in the run up to the holiday season.

1. Try other culture’s traditions

The world is becoming a global village. It is important to remember that most likely not everybody in your workplace celebrates Christmas. Therefore, it’s important to make sure that everybody can be included in the festivities.

Instead of going all guns blazing on the traditional Christian Christmas decorations and traditions, why not try to sample the traditions of other cultures which are present in your workplace. Host an on-site event during lunch and showcase how different religions and cultures celebrate this time of year. Who knows, you may end up stealing a recipe for your own holiday dinner.

This inclusion will help all of your employees to feel part of the team. Sampling other traditions is an easy team building exercise to partake in this time of year, that will help build relationships amongst team members.

2.  Decorate to your heart’s content

Tinsel, lights, mini-trees, it’s all very lovely. Even the addition of a couple of baubles can help brighten up your desk. If you’re feeling a bit more adventurous, why not ask your coworkers to chip in for a brand new set of decorations, or possibly ask your boss for a small budget.

Decorations can help boost employee morale. Christmas decorations often evoke positive memories which will brighten employee’s mood. This will encourage a happier workforce and create a positive office dynamic.

Putting up Christmas decorations can also help employees feel valued. This creates a relationship between staff and the overall company, building a favourable company image which can help reduce staff turnover.

3. Host some festive activities

Christmas is the giving season, and there’s no better feeling than seeing somebody’s face when they unwrap that amazing gift you spent forever looking for.

If you have a fairly decent sized workplace, why not ask your coworkers if they would like to get involved with a small Kris Kindle. Set a reasonable budget and agree to exchange gifts at the Christmas party. It’s always hilarious to see the type of creative gifts that people come up with and it’s a memorable moment to end the year on a high note.

Hosting a Christmas shoebox appeal is another charitable idea for any workplace. As it’s nice to receive gifts, it’s important to remember that not everyone this year will be celebrating. As the homeless crisis worsens in Ireland, and worldwide for that matter, there are hundreds of families who won’t be receiving any presents this year.

All you have to do put some simple gifts inside of a shoebox, wrap it up and deliver it to a local homeless charity close to your workplace—most tend to run this each year. Give back to those without this Christmas.

Here at Glandore, we offer flexible and tailored office spaces in Belfast and Dublin. Office sizes can range in style from a single desk in a shared coworking space to an entire building capable of hosting any size workforce. To find out more about becoming a Glandore member please click here.
