Five Minute Focus: Matthew Camilleri, Castille

Tell us about yourself

I just moved to Kinsale from Malta with my wife, 3 kids and 2 golden retrievers. I love spending time with my family and friends outdoors (yes even in Ireland) and I am a keen sportsman.

On the work side, I am a Chartered Accountant by profession having worked with PwC London in Assurance and later on in their strategy advisory practise. I then returned to Malta and founded Castille and I consider myself very fortunate to have worked hard at something I feel very passionate about.

I am also a proud member of the board of TIA (formerly known as IT@Cork).

Tell us about Castille

Castille is a talent platform for tech and finance specialists with hard-to-find skills. We have active pre-vetted teams in 30 countries in areas such as high-end software and data engineering, Quality Assurance, Devops and Big 4/mid-tier accountants. We are growing these skills verticals continuously according to our clients’ requirements.

Castille also develops proprietary technology which allows us to index the world of specialist work to map the significant changes afoot in the demand for specialist roles and their corresponding skills requirements. This allows us to provide our candidates with a unique digital UX and insight for career planning.

We will be partnering with customers in Ireland to provide the capacity they need to deliver on their business plans. We hope to bring value to the Irish eco-system by providing access to fresh talent pools in skills areas where there is very little availability.

Our proposition is simply bringing a fresh, robust supply line of specialist talent which is pre-vetted, stable and very scalable.

What’s your role in Castille?

I am the CEO of the company and mainly focused on product, people and brand. My core exco team is made of 5 extraordinary people with whom I have been working for 8 years+ on average.

The role allows me to think both inside and outside the box and I place huge value in working with people I trust.

Tell us something about Castille we may not know

Whilst we focus on tech and financial specialist skills, our customers are cross sectoral operating in banking, insurance, igaming, finetech, telco, fund administration and Big 4/mid-tier accountancy practices.

On our core skills verticals, we share pre-vetted candidates within 24 hours and these candidates are available to commence work with clients in 1-4 weeks.

We have active teams in 30 countries stretching from the Americas, Europe, the African continent, MENA and Australasia.

Castille is an independent, specialist talent brand incorporated in Ireland under Castille Technologies (IE).

What’s next for Castille?

Having been very successful in our home market, which continues to be a growth story in 2023 we are currently in stage 1 of our client internationalisation plan which centres on the Irish and German markets.

What do you think is the future of work?

I think work flexibility has been coming for some time before the pandemic and since the successful global experiment that was CV, there is no turning back.

Europe will need up to 4million more techies by 2027, Germany will account for nearly 25% of that which means it will remain an employee market for the foreseeable future. Despite the sad headlines on redundancies, there are very few companies out there firing strategic specialist talent and the employment markets in general remain tight.

I believe the new flexible ways of working are here to stay. Clearly with flexibility comes more accountability which works very well for people with the right mindset.

What do you like about being a Glandore Member?

Friday nights in or Friday nights out?

I would love to say out at a good gastro pub but to be honest, I have been spending most Fridays at home with Astride and the kids cooking up a special dinner and movie night before an action-packed weekend.
