Tell us about Decom Engineering

Decom Engineering was formed in 2012 manufacturing specialized pipe cutting & pipe coating removal equipment for offshore subsea pipelines & onshore infrastructures.

Aiming our products at the Petroleum, construction and Nuclear industries, we work closely with our customers to provide them with bespoke equipment designed around their requirements. We pride ourselves on delivering a very high quality of engineering and services that provide solutions to our customers problems. Within our industries, we play a critical role in the reduction of the carbon footprint and the recycling of essential raw materials.

What is your role in the company?

I founded Decom Engineering in 2012 while I was studying Commerce at the University College Dublin and have held the role of CEO since. We raised private equity in 2018 and have grown the company substantially over the last 4 years.

My role consists of the day to day operations of Decom Engineering at our Tyrone headquarters, Aberdeen base and our Dutch joint venture.

I help formulate & implement key strategies, together with our executive team and managers, to ensure the ongoing growth of the company. I also table key staff, executive and board meetings alongside our Chairman.

Tell us something about Decom Engineering that we might not know?

We have an oil and gas pipe processing facility in Zeeland, Netherlands. Here we have recycled over 22,000Ton of steel tubulars and repurposed these into the civil industry, vastly reducing the carbon footprint of large construction projects within Europe.

Jointly with our Dutch partner we supplied various tubular piles for the new Paris underground metro system in 2021.

What’s next for Decom Engineering?

Recently we have opened our new facility in Aberdeen, Scotland. This is to facilitate the mobilization, training and demonstrations of our equipment for our offshore Oil and Gas contractors.

We have also secured several scopes of work in the Gulf of Thailand which will see our equipment and technicians active in this region for the foreseeable future.

The near future for Decom entails expanding our team, increased production of our offshore cutting equipment and attending trades shows in person. The next one being the Subsea Expo held in Aberdeen on the 22nd to 24th February.

What’s your favourite thing about working in Belfast?

It’s great to have a space in Belfast away from the production facility, where our business development team can focus on current live projects, tenders and all other sales related activities.

It is also convenient for arranging meetings, networking and hiring new staff.

What do you like about being a Glandore Member?

The facilities are exactly what we were looking for. It’s secure, good internet and a relaxed atmosphere within the communal spaces. We have benefited from the meeting room and the use of various discount codes offered with local businesses.

Friday nights in or Friday nights out?

The working week tends to be very busy, often with travel to Aberdeen involved, so by Friday afternoon I like to relax ahead of the weekend. I am currently studying an MBA and this can sometimes mean Friday nights are back to being a student minus the fun parts!
