Five Minute Focus On: Sarah Abbot, The People Practice
Tell us about yourself ?
A proud West Cork lady, I spent nearly 30 years travelling the globe as an HR Director for companies such as Apple, EMC, Musgraves, Morgan McKinley and EY.
I am passionate about sailing, anything maritime really and immensely curious about people – I love meeting people, hearing their powerful stories and their great journeys in life.
Tell us about The People Practice?
The People Practice is an industry leading provider of bespoke Coaching and HR Solutions. We help individuals, teams and organisations get better results. We do this by creating a deep clarity around the current situation and opening up future possibilities, that were previously hidden. We have been working in this field for over 30 years, so we can quickly determine what might work best for a company or team, through a combination of coaching, development and consulting tools.
What is your role in the People Practice?
I founded The People Practice so am responsible for our own future strategy, designing client responses, and ensuring we provide the appropriate tools and consultants to ensure our clients get lasting impact.
Tell us something about the People Practice that we may not know?
No two solutions are ever the same. While the work presented to us often sounds and feels familiar, the diversity of people, time and depth mean we redesign every time. And every time, we discover a new insight or experience, that we build on for next time.
What’s next for The People Practice in Cork?
We are well on our way to establishing ourselves as the leading provider of people solutions in the region. My immediate prioritiy is to manage our growth so all our clients are well served, every time.
What’s your favourite thing about working in Cork ?
The spirt of the people is second to none. The mix of local and multi-national business in a University city cannot be underestimated. Our beautiful landscapes and food rival anywhere in the world. Having travelled extensively, it’s a fabulous location.
What do you like about being a Glandore Member?
The community spirit amongst the businesses on site is phenomenal. I am a bit of a perfectionist so love the high standards that Glandore maintain on everything – from their support to me, through reception to the facilities. The location is perfect for my clients to travel to as they can park downstairs or are just a taxi from the airport.
Friday nights in or Friday night out?
Both! Sometimes I am so talked out, that sitting in saying absolutely nothing is just the thing. More often than not though, I am off to something – the challenge is getting to everything that is on, there is so much to experience. Although you can’t beat sailing in Bantry Bay as the sun sets.
