Christmas activities not to be in missed in Cork this December

With the arrival of the big Ferris wheel, we all know that the festive season has officially launched in Cork City. From Christmas pantos to Christmas carolling, there are plenty of things to do across the city. Our Glandore community team in Cork have compiled a list of activities for you to do over the Christmas period.

Glow Cork

Visit the festive installation in Bishop Lucey Park, soar high above Cork on a giant Ferris wheel and indulge in the festive market and entertainment on the Grand Parade this Christmas.

Glow will take place on:
·      Friday 30 November to Sunday 2 December
·      Friday 7 December to Sunday 9 December
·      Friday 14 December to Sunday 16 December
·      Thursday 20 December to Saturday 22 December

The Ferris Wheel will open each day from 12 noon to 9pm, from Friday 30 November 2018 to Sunday 6 January 2019.

Cork on Ice

Want a fun way to stay active this Christmas season? Why not hit the ice skating rink at Cork on Ice? There is also ice hockey, figure skating, speed skating, and events like Skate with Santa, so there’s sure to be something for everyone.

Location: Mahon Point Shopping Centre

Price: € 13 off peak / €14 peak times

The Cork City Christmas Shopping Valet

Don’t forget about the Cork City Christmas Shopping Valet. Leave your all your bags in at 1/ 2 Cook Street while you continue to shop and soak up the atmosphere of the city hassle-free. Opening hours are Monday – Saturday 11am-7pm, and Sunday 12pm- 5pm.

Price: FOC however they do ask for donations in aid of Breakthrough Cancer Research

No Christmas is complete with at least one panto. Cork, with its array of theatres has a number of Pantos guaranteed to entertain the whole family this year.

Jack and The Beanstalk

Cork Opera House is thrilled to bring to life the fi-fi-fo-fun tale of Jack and The Beanstalk this Christmas. Don’t miss this spectacular production, which promises to be Cork’s most joyous panto yet with colourful costumes, live music, spectacular dance routines, comedy capers and the magical special effects you’ve come to know and love!

Jack and The Beanstalk will run 29th November 20 – 21st January 2024.

The Adult Panto

CHATTYBOO PRODUCTIONS celebrate 10 YEARS of Adult Panto awesomeness this year and this year they bring you HANSEL AND GRETEL (the Adult Panto), the funniest ADULT PANTO yet. Definitely not one for the kids but always a great night out for the grown-ups. 18+ and ID required.

HANSEL AND GRETEL will run 1 December 2018 – 5 January 2019, Tuesday to Sunday each week

Cinderella

This year’s Everyman panto is ‘Cinderella’. Who shall go to the ball? It’s you! ‘Cinderella’ stars the same crazy gang as last year’s sold out ‘Beauty and The Beast’! Jam-packed with panto fun, they bring this magical story to life! ‘Cinderella’ gets a re-boot but it’s a show for all generations of panto lovers – old and new.

Cinderella will run Sunday 1 December 2018 – Sunday 13 January 2019

Who doesn’t love Christmas Carols? It is the one time of year when everyone enjoys tradition, singing songs together while usually raising some money for very worthy causes. Here are a few of our favourites taking place in Cork over the Christmas season.

A Christmas Carol

Back by popular demand Oceans of Notions Theatre Company and Nano Nagle Place are bringing back “A Christmas Carol” for one weekend only (30th November – 3rd December), to the iconic Goldie Chapel. Starring Kieran O’Leary who will bring the characters of Scrooge, Bob Cratchit, the Ghost of Jacob Marley and Tiny Tim to life, with live carols sung beautifully by Michèle de Foubert.

The Choir of St Fin barre’s Cathedral

The Choir of St Fin barre’s Cathedral will perform Benjamin Britten’s A Ceremony of Carols takes place on Saturday 15 December at 1pm.
