Five Minute Focus on: Maeve Buckley, Leading Sports Agency
Tell us about yourself ?
I am a mum of two boys in my forties, live in Turners Cross and all of us are big into all things sport. Living in Turners Cross is great as so central to the city and right next to the Cork City FC and Munster Rugby stadiums, so great for attending matches.
Tell us about Leading Sport ?
Leading Sport is a sports consultancy, specializing in working with international federations and governing bodies. We work in strategy development, performance and elite, participation and grassroots, governance, public affairs, commercial and marketing. Clients include FIFA, UEFA, FIBA, Sport Ireland, plus many of the Irish governing bodies such as Cricket Ireland, IRFU, etc. We work in sports events and clients include international soccer teams such as Liverpool FC, as well as domestic clients including Dublin City Council, the RDS and Millstreet. We work in the development of elite sporting facilities, and for a number of years sat on the Board of the National Sports Campus.
What is your role in the company?
I am the owner and executive director.
Tell us something about Leading Sports that we may not know?
So far this year we have worked with clients in Sri Lanka, Botswana, Kuwait, and many European countries – all from HQ in Glandore City Quarter!
What’s next for your business in Cork?
We would like to support the development of sport in Cork and share our skills and network to make Cork the centre of sport and wellbeing excellence it deserves to be.
What’s your favourite thing about working in Cork ?
Where do I start? I really love Cork – being able to cycle to work in 10 minutes on pretty good cycle paths, get anywhere in town quickly with easy access to top quality services, running into people I know and making connections, and easy access to a top-quality international airport. And of course, working from the Glandore offices!
What do you like about being a Glandore Member?
I love the networking and lunchtime events – I learn new things, meet new people, and it makes me feel part of a local group when my work has me focused overseas.
Friday nights in or Friday night out?
Honestly? Friday nights at the soccer pitch!
