Q. What was your first job?

I graduated from UCD with a science degree in 1973 and my first job was with Eli Lilly as a medical representative. I started with looking after Dublin hospitals and later made the move to London teaching hospitals.

Q. What would you regard as your greatest achievement to date?

Professionally, my greatest achievement to date would have to be steering my family business Glandore through the recession and coming out the other side. Today, with Glandore having been in business for 16 years, I still believe that getting through what was a challenging time for so many businesses, has been a significant achievement.

Q. In three words or less, how do you define success?

Achieving a balance.

Q. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

In business, turnover is vanity, profit is sanity and cash is reality.

Q. How do you motivate yourself and your staff?

I am a self-motivated person and optimistic by nature. I like to look at how things can be done rather than look at obstacles or at what ‘can’t’ be done. As Managing Director, I believe that openness in business fosters growth. I try to always be open with employees about the business and the future of Glandore, Suesey Street and No. 25. I strive to create a positive, supportive working environment and work culture.

Q. If you could step into the shoes of one business person for the day, who would it be and why?

I think that Richard Branson has a great outlook on life and business. I also like that he is very family focused, something which is of huge importance to me.

Q. How do you relax?

I relax by exercising; going to the gym as well as by playing tennis and golf. I also enjoy the downtime when dining out (even more so when it’s in our restaurant Suesey Street!).

Q. What’s your motto?

Go for it. Don’t be afraid of a challenge or afraid to grasp an opportunity.

Q. What are your aspirations for the future of your business?

I simply aspire for Glandore, Suesey Street and No. 25 to see continued growth and development. I firmly believe that all three branches of the business model we operate have great potential to do so. As we are a family business, naturally, we are all very invested in it. I hope that we continue to find great enjoyment in the business, as I believe that this combination is a recipe for success.

At Glandore, we create space for business to grow with serviced offices, coworking, flexible workspace and an exclusive members network. If you’d like to find out more about us and how we can help your business grow in Ireland, get in touch for a chat or a tour here.
