Tell us about THINK data protection
THINK data protection is the only data protection training & consultancy agency in Northern Ireland. We help businesses and organisations understand their data protection obligations and protect themselves from the wrath of the Information Commissioner. We carry out risk assessments, create strategic plans for ongoing data protection compliance, carry out DP and GDPR training and offer an independent data protection accreditation.
What’s your role in THINK data protection?
I’m the Founder & CEO of the company. We only started business in September 2016 and already have worked with businesses in legal, medical, technology and education verticals as well as charities and government bodies. We have also trained over 100 businesses in London to get ready for the upcoming data protection changes GDPR.
Tell us something about THINK data protection we might not know
THINK data protection is my third business. I was a self-employed barrister for twelve years and while still practicing developed Briefed, an online case management software for barristers, now used by barristers all over the UK and Ireland. THINK is actually a spin out from both those businesses bringing together my legal background and tech experience.
What’s next for THINK data protection?
GDPR. This is new legislation which is being introduced and brings with it possible fines of E20million for all businesses who fail to meet their data protection obligations. As one of the only data protection consultancies with experience in this area we are super busy helping companies get trained up and GDPR ready, and of course leveraging these big changes to help grow our business.
What’s your favourite thing about working in Belfast?
I grew up in the depths of rural County Armagh, so even though I have lived in Belfast 18 years I still adore the fact I can walk everywhere rather than be stuck in a daily commute. Plus, Belfast has become such a vibrant city – I love it.
What do you like about being a Glandore Member?
I love the location of the Belfast office – so close to all the shops and socialising, but what is best is the lovely Glandore staff – nothing is ever too much trouble, and they’re a lot of fun too.
Friday nights in or Friday nights out?
Both! I love a Friday when I get to go out on the town in Belfast and try out a new bar or restaurant. Unless of course it’s been a hectic week, and then a Friday night in front of the fire with Netflix and my husband is most welcome!
